YB Deputy Minister of Finance, Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani, will be leading the Malaysian delegation to the 49th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of ADB and 19th ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting. The Meetings will be held in Frankfurt, Germany starting from 1st to 5th May 2016.

The theme of the 49th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank is Cooperating for Sustainability. The Meeting is expected to draw participants from all over the world including heads of state, finance ministers; central bank governors and representatives from the private sector and academia. At the side of the meetings, YB Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani will also meet ADB President, Mr. Takehiko Nakao to discuss related issues particularly on financing for regional development.

ADB Annual Meetings allow Governors from ADB member countries to provide guidance on ADB administrative, financial, and operational directions. The meeting also provides opportunities for member governments to interact with ADB staff, non-government organizations, media, and representatives of observer countries, international organizations, academia and the private sector.

Seminars will discuss inclusive and sustainable growth; fostering greater trade and investment; structural reforms; education and skills; climate change; employment and procurement reforms as well as business opportunities with the ADB.

The 19th AFMGM+3 will discuss the progress of the regional economic cooperation, as well as exchange views and ideas on global and regional economic prospects and challenges. The Meeting, among others, will deliberate on several initiatives, including the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM) and Asian Bond Markets Initiative (ABMI).

Malaysia’s participation in both the Meetings will further reaffirm our commitment in ensuring economic and financial stabilities of the region are given the highest priority. Malaysia’s involvement in the Meetings will also safeguard our interest in the regional fora.
