Malaysia used to make loans with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank in the past, especially during the early period of independence (in the 60's and 70's). At present, the government is not making any new loans from those institutions except for some small loans from the Islamic Development Bank. Our nation simply does not want to rely on sources of financing from these institutions as sources of local funds are sufficient. Thus, the Government did not make any new loans. The Government at present only makes payments to settle old loans only.
