Dato’ Amiruddin Hamzah is the Deputy Finance Minister of Malaysia. He assumed the position on 2nd July 2018 following the victory of the Pakatan Harapan (Alliance of Hope) coalition in Malaysia’s momentous 14th General Election on 9th May 2018.
Born in April 1962 at Kedah, Dato’ Amiruddin holds a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Civil & Structural Engineering from University of Bradford, UK. He then completed Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the same university ten years later. He is a family man blessed with 7 children. He is now an elected Member of Parliament for Kubang Pasu, Kedah for the first term in recent General Election and five consecutive terms as the state assemblymen for Anak Bukit, Kedah.
He started his early days as engineer executive at Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) and served for 13 years. With a great track record known to the industry he was offered by TR Properties Sdn Bhd to work with them. About 2 years with the company, he been offered again as Senior Manager at Darulaman Realty Sdn Bhd. As someone who is constantly looking for new challenges to upgrade his networking and skill, he accepted the job wholeheartedly.
Dato’ Amiruddin is a statesman who has dedicated his life to uplift the burden and empower the society at large. As a Kedahan with Islamic values deeply rooted from his parents and surrounding he chose to start his political career as a member to Malaysia Islamic Party known as PAS. His first score as politician was when he won Anak Bukit state assembly seat in 2002 in a by-election following the demise of Ust Dato’ Haji Fadzil Muhammad Noor. During his third term as an assemblymen, he was appointed as a senior member of Kedah State Executive Committee (EXCO) in 2008.
In his time as the state Exco for Industry, Investment and Biotechnology of Kedah, he did well by increasing number of employment from 16,000 to 26,000 within 5 years span particularly in Kulim Hitech Park (KHTP). As the chairman to KHTP he managed to pull several international investors to invest and revamp the economy of Kedah while he was at the helm of power.
Prior to the momentous 14th General Election, he decided to make a huge jump from his former party to a new ‘Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’ (PPBM) led by current Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He contested both in the Parliamentary and State seats and won both.
Moving to Putrajaya
Since assuming into the position, he has work tireless in meeting the people’s expectations. He is interested in putting in place good governance and being entrusted to champion Islamic finance and economy. He aims to make Kuala Lumpur as the Regional Hub of Islamic Finance and Economy.
